The Countdown Begins

It is less than a week away for our big show here in Illinois.  So as we put the final touches on things we are looking over all of the details.

We have put together an impressive list of sessions offering up a ton of HRCI credits. We have created a TWUBS feed so you can follow or embed the tweet stream. We have created a list of twitter users who we know will be in attendance (and would be happy to add you).  We will be hosting a meetup/tweetup on Monday evening August 22nd.  We will be recognizing our Wellness at Work – WOWWIE winners at a lunch meeting. We will be hosting official from the SHRM .Bookstore – and all that they bring with them to the conference.

List of bloggers from the TWUBS  site.
We will have in attendance two internet Radio sensations (yes I chose that word carefully) Steve Boese host of HR Happy Hour will be in attendance and trying our some new and exciting technology. Also we have the dynamic duo of Bryan Wempen and William Tincup host of the daily internet HR Radio show Drive Thru HR. Bryan and William will be doing two broadcasts from the event.

Also in attendance we will have SHRM’s own Social Media Guru Curtiss Midkiff, who to will be doing something new and different for a state conference.  You will have to follow the event to see what Curtiss has up his sleeve.

How about Google + what are we going to do with that?  We are not sure yet, but it is on the radar and we are going to try to integrate that into the event somehow.

We have over 25 bloggers who will be on site. No doubt that will generate a sizable about of content coming out of the conference.

We will have nearly 60 vendors at our vendor fair showing off some of the latest things for the world of H.R.

If you haven’t signed up it is not too late.  If you are registered, make sure you sign up for the meetup and join our twubs page.   See you soon!

2011 Fall Conference Speaking Tour - Illinois SHRM Conference

Today's post appeared on Monday August 8, 2011 on Jenifer McClure's blog site www.UnbrideledTalent.com. Jennifer has been gracious enough to share it with us here at our site.  Jennifer is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.  If you come to this's year conference you must meet here

It’s finally Fall Conference season

Hopefully, you’ll have an opportunity to attend a few events to network, meet with a few vendors in an exhibit hall and learn from the keynote and concurrent sessions speakers.

First up for me this Fall is the 2011 Illinois SHRM Conference, which will be held August 21 – 23, 2011 in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. The #ILSHRM11 organizers have really embraced social media to communicate prior to, during and after the conference and also to educate their attendees. They’re got a great blog covering ILSHRM happenings year-around and have scheduled a pre-conference Social Media Bootcamp on Sunday with Jessica Miller-Merrell, as well as an entire track of speakers covering social media from a variety of perspectives. I’m excited about being a part of the Social Media Track, where I’ll be speaking about “Using Social Media In HR to Attract, Recruit & Retain Talent”!

Below is a brief video describing some of the speakers and events I’m excited about attending as part of the Illinois SHRM Conference (Email subscribers will need to click through to view the video.)
If you’ll be attending, please be sure to connect and let’s meet in person!

Click HERE for a complete copy of the 2011 Illinois SHRM Conference brochure and HERE for a detailed listing of their concurrent sessions.

Thanks for sharing Jennifer and we will see you in Oak Brook!

WOWIE Judge Provides Advice for next Year’s Entrants

Winners and non-winners of the 2011 WOWIE Awards contest have been notified and a news release announcing the winners will be sent out in August before the ILSHRM annual meeting.  For companies that didn’t win, what is the take away message, given they spent hours preparing their application, only to fall short.  Fear not employee wellness advocates, because we conducted an interview with one of the WOWIE judges who took the time to provide advice on how to win next year.

Susan Avello
Susan Avello,  Vice-president and partner, Aging Info USA, and one of the WOWIE judges this year, came away impressed with the quality of the entries.

“For the most part, the WOWIE applicants were thinking ahead of the game in regard to their wellness initiatives,” she said.  “They tried to help their employees think proactively about well-being and this was the key to their benefit message.”

Avello said that winning entries stood out because they went beyond the norm in their effort to create a healthy workplace and compensated their employees on their effort to maintain a healthy lifestyle outside of work.

“I gave high marks and credit to employers who constantly engaged employees with surveys and continued use of technology such as mobile apps, to not only stay in touch with emloyees but also to allow them to use social media and mobile apps for access to wellness benefits,” Avello said.

Avello gave this advice to companies who want to improve their application for 2012:

“Consider implementing a company culture, a well-being culture and new ways ot using technology for employee engagement and accessibility to this technology to keep employees involved.”  She further advised companies to focus on the tie between health and wellness and flex scheduling.

“I realize flexible schedules are not an employee benefit, but I would like to see more about how companies can use flex time for their employees and how they can be creative in their approach to help employees with work/life issue that arise.
