In less than 2 weeks I'll be attending my first SHRM
conference, the Illinois
SHRM State Conference and Expo. I was invited to attend by the organizing
committee to be a part of the Social
Media Team. I'm honored by the request and look forward to contributing to
the success of this year's event.
Conferences are great for a variety of reasons. I've
attended my fair share over the years and I've gained a lot from them. Early in
my career they helped me increase my knowledge in several subject areas, such
as employee relations and compensation. As I've matured as a Human Resources
practitioner I've shifted my conference focus more toward networking and
inspiration. While the sessions remained important, it was the act of meeting
and engaging with other HR pros (particularly those that I had formed
relationships with via social media) that provided the most value.
Now I find myself in a blended role this year. I go as a
conference member, who will hopefully provide interested attendees some tips
and tricks on how to utilize social media within their HR/business practice. At
the same time I'm genuinely interested in getting to know you. Yes, you.
- What prompted you to become a HR professional?
- What motivates you to stay in this profession?
- Why are you at this event?
- How can I help you?
The last question is the most important to me, as I believe
we can all use some from time to time. Let's face it, the last few years have
been difficult. Leaders at all levels, in every industry, have had to make hard
choices. We're all doing more with less. If I can help you in any way I'd be
happy to try.
So come to the ILSHRM State Conference and say hi. Hopefully
you'll learn something valuable.
See you soon!
